Alice Waagen, Ph.D. is a management consultant who specializes in designing learning programs that
support business strategies. She focuses on applying the principles of education and learning to meet
business goals.
Dr. Waagen has over 20 years experience in learning applications, which includes heading up training
units in major Fortune 500 companies. Under her leadership, these organizations have developed full
systems for learning measurement and evaluation, cost of training models, volume and activity
reporting, customer satisfaction metrics and training return on investment (ROI). Her corporate
expertise encompasses a variety of industries such as computer software, finance, transportation,
and utilities.
In the consultant role, she provides business-based solutions for workforce learning. These solutions
range from development and delivery of traditional instructor-led training programs to leadership
development strategies and executive coaching assignments based on multi-rater feedback systems.
Dr. Waagen also has served as a temporary organizational learning executive, building full learning
and development functions for companies.
She also has a background in systems analysis and workforce training automation, and has assisted
numerous clients in the design of fully automated systems to manage learning activity and results.
Dr. Waagen earned her Ph.D. and Master of Science degrees from the Pennsylvania State University
and a Bachelor of Science from the New York State College at Buffalo.
She has presented at numerous professional conferences, including the Training Director’s Forum,
the Chancellor’s Conference on Civilian Education (DoD), the Training Officer’s Conference, and the
American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) - Metro Washington DC Chapter. In addition,
she has presented "Training Line Managers on HR Issues," at the Human Resources Association -
Washington DC Chapter; "Developing a Strategic Learning Blueprint" at Inscape Publishing's 2001
Annual Conference; Edge Services 2001 Annual Corporate Retreat on "Personal Development
Thorough 360° Feedback; "Linking Learning to Corporate Strategic Goals" at the Training '98
Conference; and "Developing a Training Strategy and Plan" to the Training Director's Forum, 1997.
